Preschool (Ages 3-5)

Preschool aquatics programs are for children ages 3-5 and, unless otherwise specified, are unparented programs.

Sea Otter

Sea Otter

Transitional level that transfers preschoolers to the care of the instructor. All skills are assisted by the instructor. Swimmers use games and activities, learn to open their eyes under water, further develop basic floats and glides, and swim one meter. They also learn age-appropriate water safety skills. Swimmers are evaluated based on performance criteria and progress to Salamander once all criteria has been successfully completed.

Salamander

Salamander

Swimmers enter this level if they have SUCCESSFULLY completed SEA OTTER. Swimmers learn to swim 2 meters, develop basic floats and increase their distance on front and back glides. Front swim and roll-over glides are also included, and swimmers learn appropriate water safety skills such as how to jump into chest-deep water and how to use a Personal Floatation Device (PFD). Games, activities, and songs enhance the fun.

Sunfish

Sunfish

Swimmers enter this level if they have SUCCESSFULLY completed SALAMANDER. Swimmers learn to swim 2 meters, increase their distance using buoyant objects, increase their front and back glides with kick and develop their rollover glide, side glide and front swim. Safety skills include deep water skills and use of a Personal Floatation Device (PFD). Games, activities and songs are part of the class for added fun.

Crocodile

Crocodile

Swimmers enter this level if they have SUCCESSFULLY completed SUNFISH. Swimmers learn through songs and other fun activities to swim 5 meters on their front and back, perform dolphin kick, and begin using rhythmic breathing. They also progress with kicking drills and increase their swimming distance to 10 metres. Safety skills include recognizing when a swimmer needs help.

Whale

Whale

This is the fifth and final step in our preschool program for children ages 3-5 years old. Swimmers enter this level if they have SUCCESSFULLY completed CROCODILE. Swimmers learn, through fun activities, to swim 10 meters, jump into chest-deep water while maintaining surface support for 20 seconds, and perform a front and back crawl for 7 meters. Safety skills include identifying safe swimming areas, jumping into and changing direction in deep water.
